Why Use a Local-First Portfolio Tracker?

Most portfolio trackers ask you to sign up, give your email, or connect a wallet. That's convenient — but it also means your holdings, your buy prices, and your trading patterns sit on someone else's server. A few have been hacked (CoinTracking 2017, Atomic Wallet 2023). Even when secure, your data is monetized via ads or sold to third parties.

This tracker takes a different approach. Your data lives in localStorage — a small browser-scoped storage area that never leaves your device. Prices are fetched from a public price API with no identifying information attached. Close the tab, come back tomorrow, your portfolio is still there. Switch devices and you start fresh.

How to Track Your Crypto Portfolio Manually

1. List every coin you hold. Check every exchange, wallet, staking platform, and DeFi position. The biggest tracking error is forgetting holdings in places you don't check often.
2. Find your average buy price for each coin. Sum up what you paid (USD value at time of each buy) divided by total coins. Most exchanges show this as “avg cost” under positions.
3. Enter holdings here. Live prices update every minute. The PnL column shows your unrealized gain or loss instantly.
4. Set a review cadence. Weekly or bi-weekly is plenty. Daily portfolio checking correlates with worse returns (because you trade more on emotions).

What This Tracker Does Not Do (and Why)

• Automatic transaction history. That requires exchange API keys or wallet connections, which break the privacy model.
• Tax reports. Use Koinly or CoinTracker for compliance-grade reports with cost basis methods, swap tracking, and IRS forms.
